Welcome to Our Website!
Our Club was formed in 1989 by a group of people interested in the promotion of the true image of the Siberian Husky & Alaskan Malamute. It was felt that the breeds can be promoted and advanced through sharing of knowledge between club members. This has led to our club holding such an excellent and highly regarded racing season, a full weight pull season, obedience training and more recently backpacking and freighting adventures. Of course, our Club has also led the way four our breeds in Australia by recognizing these working dogs by awarding Working Dog Certificate titles, an award highly regarded in working dog circles and particularly this Club (however, please note that no controlling body such as the South Australian Canine Association (SACA) or the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) acknowledge these awards).
Considering
this, the most important officially recognized awards by any controlling body
for our breeds is the Australian Champion title and the Grand Champion
title. For this reason our Club, with the above purpose in mind, always
has and must always regard our Conformation Chapter as the most important, as it
is through this avenue dogs are officially recognized and it is predominantly
these dogs which will form the future of our breeds.
After much hard work and lobbying, our Club was affiliated with the South Australian Canine Association on the 1st January 1991. In this same year the Point Score Competition was introduced, with kind donations by club members to awards for each breed. A Puppy Point Score was included in 1993.
Once our Club had reached a certain membership size, we were granted our first Specialty Show, to be held on 16th May 1993 at the Enfield High School grounds. Now that was a learning experience! This was the first opportunity for the state's official breed club to hold an exposition of our breeds to the public. Due to the excellent support from all exhibitors, from SA and interstate alike has been tremendous.
Regular Committee meetings are held during the year with additional working activities such as sled racing and weight-pulling contests during the winter months to take best advantage of the cooler weather. However Conformation showing is continued all year round with our Club Specialty Shows being held annually.
Our Annual General Meetings are held in November unless otherwise stated in the MUSH, our bi-monthly newsletter. Meetings are held at the South Australian Canine Association located at Cromwell Road, Kilburn SA 5084 whereby ALL members are welcome.
